The marine debris clean up on Sunday focused on the beach and promenade area around McGennan’s car park.
Sea Shepherd Warrnambool’s Andrew Holt said a group from the Melbourne chapter came down to help with the rubbish removal efforts.
“We had a really good turnout, with in excess of 50-60 people,” he said.
“20 people from Melbourne came down. It has been very successful.
“We got a lot of the beach area cleaned up and removed a lot of rubbish.”
There was also lots of fishing tackle and lines found, as well as tools including a saw.
The cleaners found items including old mattresses, an old couch, sharps, hundreds of glass bottles, plastic and an old tent.
One interesting item that was retrieved was pieces of cardboard from fireworks.
