He left with two.
The Koroit midfielder chose to focus on team and wore his premiership medallion with pride post-game and kept his Ron Hoy Medal for best on ground tucked underneath his guernsey.
“I’m pretty stoked actually. It’s such a grind of a day and I only wanted one medal at the start of the day and this is just a bonus,” Hoy said.
“I will tuck it away pretty quickly and give it to mum and dad and leave this premiership one on.”
Hoy joined Saints ruckman Jeremy Hausler, who claimed the AFL Victoria Medal, as best-on-ground in Koroit’s history-breaking fifth flag in a row.
He was eager to respond against Camperdown after lowering his colours against the Magpies in the Saints’ second semi-final defeat.
Hoy did just that, helping Koroit to an 11-point win at Reid Oval on Saturday.
“I had a good battle with Jesse Gallichan in the semis and he definitely beat me and I was pretty cross about it so I really wanted to do well today, not so much for myself but for the team,” he said.
“I snuck down forward and missed a shot which I usually should get but I can’t complain now.”
Koroit was one point down at the final change but kicked three goals to one to wear Camperdown down.
“All year we’ve been really good at breaking down sides gradually,” Hoy said.
“Sometimes it takes until the last quarter to do that.
“Camperdown gave us a good touch-up in the semis and we did a lot of reviews and put a few things in place.
“Some worked, some didn’t but just to grind it out (was pleasing) and I think the big ground, the fitness might have just got on top which was good.”
