Owen’s efforts were rewarded with being named best on court in the Saints’ nine-goal victory over the Bombers, securing back-to-back open netball flags.
“It is a mental game mostly in finals and you have to really trust in yourself,” the goal defence said.
“They are great competitors and I knew I had to work with Jess (O’Connor) and we worked on a few things at training to change our game and it really worked this time.”
Emily finished with 20 goals, while sister Jaymie contributed eight and Hutt six.
Owen dedicated the win to departing teammate Jacqui Bowman.
“I don’t this she would like to make it about her as that is what she is like,” she said.
“But she would be thrilled to finish it this way and we are thrilled for her and sad to see her go but what a way to finish.”
The midcourter-turned-defender, who is eager to return for a shot at three-in-a-row in 2019, praised Cobden’s season post match.
“We knew, because Cobden had been on top all year, that we had to bring our best game to beat them,” Owen said.
“We really respect their side and what Nadine (McNamara) has done with them all season. We just had to play our game and we could have got rattled but we went back to our steady netball and it paid off.”
