Hundreds of footballs and netballs were given away to eager children, who also enjoyed inflatables, face painting and activities.
The council’s Helen Sheedy said AFL Footy Fever was part of a business support package for the stage two renewal works to encourage people to visit the CBD. “It’s a big week of footy for us because we’ve got our Hampden league grand final and the AFL celebrations next week,” she said.
The Cobden community will cheer its open and 13 and under netball sides to premiership glory on Saturday. It is 19 years since the open team’s last grand final appearance and the Bombers are yet to win a premiership.
Cobden Primary School principal Peter Lee said a footy breakfast was held on Friday which some of the Cobden netballers attended and he wished both teams well.
