The Bombers midcourter will line up on Hampden league grand final day as they strive to win their first open netball premiership.
Hammond, 19, moved back to the south-west after finishing school following a three-year stint in Tongala with her family, including former Cobden football coach Stephen.
The Colac-based teenager said she was drawn back to Cobden.
“I moved up when I was in year 10 and I already had all my friends down here so I was keen to get back,” she said.
The shift has paid off with Hammond playing a key role in the Bombers’ top-place home-and-away season finish.
She is excited to meet powerhouse club Koroit in the decider at Reid Oval on Saturday.
“It would just be amazing (if we won). It is such a great achievement for the whole club. It would just be awesome if it happens,” Hammond said.
“I think we’re nervous obviously because it’s our first one in 19 years but I think we’re more excited, especially with having under 13s and div one there too.
“The vibe at netball training is really positive.”
Hammond said the Bombers’ leaders had driven the high standards and they had reaped rewards.
“It’s been awesome, especially with Nadine (McNamara) and Sophie Barr, they’re so helpful,” she said.
“Having Sophie who can help in the attack end and Nadine focuses on the defence end, it just helps us become stronger as a team.”
The diminutive midcourter said her height meant she had to play smart.
“It is hard. The passing is most difficult to try and get it over their hands,” she said.
“It is hard remembering to step around and use shoulder passes but there is ways around it.”
Barr, who shared the Hampden league best and fairest with McNamara, is fit to play after overcoming a hamstring strain which kept her out of Cobden’s preliminary final win. She will slot into the Bombers’ midcourt, providing another avenue to their effective goal circle.
