Kristan Austin, 23, of Mount Napier Road, Hamilton, unsuccessfully applied for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court.
He is charged with trafficking a drug of dependence, possessing the proceeds of crime, affray and criminal damage.
Mr Austin told the court that he was expecting a child in five weeks and that he was suffering from a collapsed lung and broken ribs following a car accident about five weeks ago.
But, Magistrate Alan Spillane said Mr Austin had failed to show compelling reasons to be released and remanded him in custody until September 19.
On May 30 Mr Austin attended a Centrelink office in Hamilton’s Gray Street.
Police said he became frustrated after he was told that he would no longer receive Centrelink payments.
Mr Austin punched a computer keyboard and then grabbed the monitor, ripping it from a stand and threw it on the ground.
He then threw two chairs about 10 metres across the room into a wall.
Mr Austin was asked to leave and he later handed himself into police. He was charged and bailed to appear in court on September 19.
Then on September 14 a police raid at the accused’s Mount Napier Road home located about seven grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia and a Holden commodore wagon believed to be purchased with money obtained through drug trafficking.
Police said that during the raid, Mr Austin entered the laundry of the house and began cutting up cannabis with the intent to smoke it.
An officer attempted to stop Mr Austin, but was punched twice to the left hand side of his jaw.
Magistrate Spillane said there was a high chance Mr Austin would face a custodial sentence.
