After starting a church in Warrnambool four-and-a-half years ago, work on a $2.4 million facility in the city’s east got under way at the beginning of the year.
The building, located next to Kardinia Childcare and Kindergarten, seats up to 300 people and has a cafe that may eventually be open to the public.
The building was official opened by South West Coast MP Roma Britnell, and Kardinia senior pastors Rick and Leonie Wright from Geelong.
Mrs Wright said that as well as church services, playgroups and marriage and parenting courses would be run out of the facility.
“The cafe is only officially opened on Sundays after the church service for now. Down the track we may look at that,” she said.
“We are a multi-campus church so we actually have a campus in Ballarat, two in Geelong and here. We also have a child care centre in Geelong.”
Warrnambool campus pastor Sandro Schietroma said the new venue was thrown open to the community last week when the church was transformed into an art gallery filled with works from children at the child care centre next door.
Mr Schietroma said they had over 500 people through the door.
“It was a way of embracing the community and being able to serve them,” he said.
“I think the exciting thing for us is having the child care centre interacting, working together. We’ve got about 200 families come here.
“We’re able to use the church to impact the community.
“It’s great because our heart is for the community, so we’re able to do a whole lot more stuff in and through and for the community that we were a little bit limited to before.”
