But she praised her team for rising from an elimination final to finish third in a tight Hampden league netball competition.

“We said before the game 'we win together, we lose together’,” McCorkell said after the Seagulls’ 11-goal loss to Cobden on Saturday.

“I’ve said it all year and one thing I am happy about with our team is the character and I’d like to think no one is going to point fingers after a loss.

“Cobden is a good side, they finished on top, it was always going to be tough to beat them.”

McCorkell lamented lost chances.

The Seagulls were one goal up at quarter-time, one down at half-time and four down at the final change.

“I thought we had our opportunities in the first quarter where we broke away a couple of times by two or three goals and that was when it was really crucial we needed to keep that lead and break away,” she said.

“But as I said, against a good opponent, they don’t let you keep that lead.”
