The Boomers cleaned up Qatar 95-43 on Friday morning, Australian Standard Time.
Sobey, who had a chair thrown at his head during the heated fracas with the Philippines in July, finished with six points, four assists and three steals from 21 minutes’ court time.
The 2016 Big V championship winner – he was player of the series in the Warrnambool Seahawks’ drought-breaking title before becoming one of the nation’s best players – joined NBL teammates Anthony Drmic and Daniel Johnson in the Boomers’ side.
The Adelaide 36ers trio combined for 30 points as all bar one Boomer hit the scoreboard in the 52-point rout.
Australia will host Kazakstan in Bendigo on Monday night.
The Boomers, who have won six of their seven qualifiers to date, will then have a break before playing Iran in November.
