Daryl Munro, 32, of Quigley Street, Hamilton, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to a range of charges, including criminal damage.
Magistrate John Doherty sentenced the man to 175 days in jail and activated a three-month suspended sentence, to be served concurrently.
Police said that in the early hours of February 16 Munro entered the rear of a coin laundry on Gray Street in Hamilton.
He gained entry to a white van by opening a window with a screwdriver. He then stole a fuel card and coins from the glove box. Munro was later identified on CCTV footage.
On March 21, Munro was at his mother’s home when began yelling and screaming. He picked up whatever he could find and smashed it on the ground in a violent outburst that lasted about four hours.
Police attended the house later that day and found a spanner stuck inside one of several damaged walls, as well as four smashed windows.
Munro was arrested just after midnight. Police said he was verbally abusive, hostile and violent.
He spat on the window of a police divisional van and threatened to burn down the police station and physically harm the wife of one officer.
Lawyer Belinda Northey said Munro had admitted to being a heroin addict and that at the time of his arrest he had a broken jaw, which fueled his hostile behaviour.
