A cast of 27 and orchestra of 15 are gearing up for Friday’s opening night with popular songs including Some Enchanted Evening and I’m Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair to ring out at the town’s Theatre Royal.
Director Graeme Bennett said South Pacific premiered on Broadway in 1949, the same year as Camperdown Repertory Society’s first production.
“When looking for a show for our 70th year, South Pacific was quick to jump to the top of my list, as it is one of my favourite shows” he said.
The theatre company formed in 1948, staging its first production of Hay Fever in 1949. The group has since produced more than 125 productions over its 70-year history.
Six performances will be staged from Friday with shows scheduled for September 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 7.30pm, and a 1.30pm matinee on the 23rd.
Tickets are now available at Laffs, 163 Manifold Street, Camperdown; by calling 5593 1469, or visiting www.camperdowntheatrecompany.com.au
The theatre company said funds from ticket sales would continue to progress performing arts in the area, including the refurbishment of the Theatre Royal.
