McCartney, who is coming off a six-goal first semi-final haul against South Warrnambool, was referred to the tribunal following an investigation.
Camperdown – the team Port Fairy could face in the grand final – asked for an incident from the teams’ round 18 match to be investigated.
McCartney was subsequently charged with unbecoming conduct for bumping or making forceful contact to an opponent from front on when the player had his head over the ball.
The opponent was Magpie Riley Arnold.
A second incident from the same match involving Port Fairy defender Dylan Herbertson and Camperdown skipper Sam Cunnington was dismissed.
Port Fairy plays reigning premier Koroit in the preliminary final at Friendly Societies’ Park on Saturday.
Camperdown booked its grand final spot with a stunning win over the Saints in the second semi-final.
