Alistair James Trask, 35, of Raglan Parade, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to criminal damage.
Magistrate John Doherty said a term of imprisonment was the only option considering Trask’s criminal history, which included kicking a window of a shop in 2014 and damaging a basin in the Warrnambool police cells in 2011.
But Trask immediately lodged an appeal against the two month sentence and was released on appeal bail.
He will return to court in October.
On May 3 an elderly motorist was attempting to reverse his vehicle into a car park at the Aldi supermarket on Lava Street in Warrnambool about 2pm.
Trask was also attempting to park and the two vehicles collided.
A short verbal altercation occurred between the two men before the victim walked away and entered the supermarket.
Trask then grabbed a large wrench from his car and began attacking the other vehicle, causing damage to the wheel arch.
He was later identified by police through CCTV footage, a vehicle registration check and a witness statement.
During an interview Trask denied the allegations, stating to police that he shopped at Gateway Plaza and not in Warrnambool’s CBD.
Lawyer Jack Rabl said Trask was “deeply ashamed" of his actions and was willing to repay the $1760. worth of damage to the vehicle.
But Magistrate John Doherty said there was no way to criminally enforce Trask to pay restitution costs.
