Reichman confirmed in the rooms after his side lost its third straight Warrnambool and District league grand final – a 31-point defeat to Nirranda – that he was calling time.
“I’m done, I’m done,” the playing coach said.
“I think a new face will help the club and I think we will keep a majority of the list but a new face will freshen things up a little bit and possibly give us that extra edge.”
An emotional Reichman, who confirmed he would continue to play in green and gold next season, was at a loss to describe what went wrong for the Warriors in the 10.11 (71) to 5.10 (40) defeat on Saturday.
“There are no other words for it, we didn’t really come here to play and they did,” he said.
“I thought we were still in the game after quarter-time as we defended pretty well but we didn’t make the most off our opportunities in the second quarter.
“From there they kicked the first couple in the third and momentum didn’t go our way and the boys got a bit of credit back in the last quarter but it was over by that stage.
“The boys will stick tight and hopefully we can come back and give ourselves another opportunity next year.”
Reichman has led the Warriors to their past three Warrnambool and District league decider appearances.
His first was a seven-point loss against Nirranda after they had finished the year undefeated. The second was a 54-point defeat to Kolora-Noorat, after his side was defeated only twice before the grand final.
The playing coach, who can play forward or back, steps aside from the role with a win-loss record of 51 victories and eight defeats.
