Dylan Zaine Bausch, 19, of Swanson Street, Terang pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to possessing a controlled weapon, unlawful assault and drug offences. He was sentenced to the 67 days he has already spent in custody.
On June 21, a man was playing a round at the Terang Golf Club when a young child took his golf balls. After the golfer asked for them back, an older brother of the child approached him and threatened to steal his car.
The golfer began collecting his balls and a white Holden Commodore arrived at the golf course. A group of males, including the accused, got out of the vehicle and began marching towards the victim.
Bausch was armed with a machete.
Police said the victim feared he was going to be assaulted and jumped in his vehicle. As he drove past the group of males, one of the men threw a golf club at the car while the accused ran after the car and pretended to throw the machete at it.
Two days later Bausch was denied visitation to a prisoner at the Warrnambool police station. Soon after he rang the sergeant on duty and said he had better watch himself and that not being able to visit had ruined his birthday.
On July 2, police executed a warrant at Bausch’s property in Terang and found a 35cm machete concealed behind a box in the bedroom as well as a cannabis plant in a pot in the backyard.
Police seized the Bausch’s mobile phone and detected evidence of drug trafficking, including him offering cannabis for sale and asking about the exchange of cannabis and methyl amphetamine.
At the time, he was on bail for charges of assault and hindering an emergency worker on duty.
In other news, a man who lead police on a high-speed pursuit before ditching the car and reporting it stolen is being assessed for a community corrections order.
William Orde, 25, of Norman Street, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to reckless conduct endangering life and other serious driving offences.
He has already spent three months in custody on remand.
Orde will appear in the Ringwood Magistrates Court on September 14.
