In a convincing back-to-back win, the Power defeated Merrivale 13.5 (83) to 5.6 (36).

Coaches Paddy Glennen and Brent Goonan said the win put the club in good stead with plenty of promising up and coming footballers showing off their skills in the under 17.5 and under 14.5 premiership teams.

“We played Merrivale earlier in the year and they were really impressive,” Goonan said.

“They also stood out in the second semi-final too. Both clubs have had kids that were able to play through the seniors and come back and play in the juniors so it’s a really good sign for both clubs to have their juniors in finals in both under 17.5s and 14.5s.”

Goonon said the Power found their groove and got on top after the first quarter.

“Both sides were looking good transitioning the ball forward but we really turned up our defensive pressure a lot and that’s when the game and momentum came into our favour,” Goonan said.

Glennen said standout players included Isaac Kenna, Robbie McInnes, Nick Hall and Luke Justin. 

“They are a tight group so I’d like to think they would stay around and move up to seniors and reserves,” he said.

“The future is looking bright for us. It’s really terrific. There are some good players coming through that have had opportunities in under 14.5s and to step up into under 17.5s. They’ve had a taste of that higher level of football, which is pleasing to see and really good for the club.” 

The best-on-ground medal went to Power midfielder Ned Payne.
