Nirranda’s Peter McDowall and Old Collegians counterpart Daryl Beechey are hoping their sides can be switched on right from the first bounce.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast for Saturday predicts winds of up to 30 kilometres an hour blowing to the city end of Reid Oval and a 50 per cent chance of rain during the day.
McDowall, who captained the Blues’ last winning grand final side in 2016, said the weather wouldn’t have an effect.
“Both sides can play in either conditions (wet and dry) so it won’t be a big part of it,” the 31-year-old said. “We just have to make sure we are ready for the contest from the start.”
Beechey, who has featured in the Warriors’ past two grand final defeats, echoed the thoughts of McDowall on the forecast and the readiness of his side for Saturday’s encounter.
The key defender continued the trend of identifying Sam Dwyer as an x-factor for the Warriors but said the team was more than just one player.
“Sam is obviously a massive one for us but we think that we are pretty even across the board,” the 32-year-old said. “If we can be on and he can use the expanses of the Reid it will put us in a good spot.”
Both captains backed their respective side’s game plans ahead of Saturday.
