Present and past players attended along with their supportive families.
After a number of years without a first-year-player award, it was a pleasing to welcome Steven Young to the association and present him with this award. The award is for a player not only new to the association but a beginner at table tennis, not having played elsewhere.
Young indicated he had enjoyed his first season and was looking forward to playing next year.
In the association aggregate, two players tied in second place. The ever consistent Val Wortley, Attunga, tied with new recruit Dominic Angarano, Warrnambool Vikings, on 19 rubbers each. Roger Learmonth, Warrnambool Vikings, finished third with 17 rubbers.
Three players won 15 rubbers, Ian Wortley- Attunga, Toli Kermond-W’bool Vikings and David Warhurst-Tarrone. With 23 rubbers, the aggregate winner was Peter Owen-St Helens.
Pennant winners Warrnambool Vikings and runner-up Attunga received their trophies.
All winners in the Minor League Tournament were highlighted and the association players who represented Orford were thanked for the commitment and support for the tournament. Being able to form four teams from an association that only had five pennant teams was special.
Then to be able win or runner-up in either grade, aggregate or championships, was exceptional.
President David Rowbottom thanked his committee, especially secretary/treasuerer Andrew McGrath and Roger Learmonth, who collates all the individual rubbers for the yearly aggregate. He also wished everyone well for the year and hoped to see them for the 2019 season.
