The talented teenager was part of the Victorian 17 and under team that won a gold medal at the School Sports Australia National Golf Championships last week.
For the first time in more than a decade, the Victorians won a gold medal in the team stroke competition.
The Victorians also won a bronze in the matchplay section.
Best was a barometer for the Victorians, with his matchplay performance of two wins, two halves (draws) and one loss, from five matches, mirroring the team's overall performance.
The championships were held in Coffs Harbour at the Bonville and Coffs Harbour golf clubs.
A member of Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Commonwealth golf clubs, Best said he was happy to be part of team success.
“It was pretty exciting, we didn’t really go in expecting to win,” Best said.
“I didn’t play that great in the stroke but I was happy with my matchplay.
“I chipped okay and I was pleased with my long irons.”
