Mermaids coach Louise Brown confirmed the shooting guard, who also plays for Koroit’s A grade side in the Hampden league, had seriously injured her left knee in the nine-point game three victory over Casey Cavaliers.

“We aren’t a hundred per cent sure what she has done but we do know she has injured her knee,” she said.

“She will have to have scans to confirm the extent of it but it’s safe to say she has done some damage.

“It was a pretty nasty fall and the way her leg went it didn’t look well, which is really unfortunate for her. 

“She is obviously playing senior netball for Koroit and they are still in finals as well. It’s disappointing but fingers crossed it’s nothing too serious.”

McKinnon played close to 11 minutes in the final game before she succumbed to the injury.

Brown said the Mermaids had made sure that after the initial final whistle celebrations that they got around their injured teammate.
