The Koroit family, who wish to remain anonymous, will split its time between the south-west and Melbourne. His mum will stay with him while he undergoes chemotherapy and treatment at a Melbourne hospital and his dad and siblings will remain at home. 

Room leader Belinda Foley said when she mentioned organising a fundraiser everyone was on board. She has been overwhelmed with the response.

“At this stage mum and the little boy are looking at being in Melbourne until the end of the year, all things going well,” she said.  “The family attends here, the little boy has a younger sister here and two older children are at the primary school here. I think that made us really reach out because it’s such a close-knit community here, to band together and let them know that that support is here.”

Ms Foley said she couldn’t imagine what they were going through. “You’ve got a sick child but you still have all the everyday things, bills have to be paid and there’s more costs because there's travel and everything else.”

What began as an in house fundraiser has snowballed with the public and businesses donating money and raffle items. “I can’t believe how generous people have been. It really restores your faith. It’s quite a buzz to help other people and to know you’re doing your bit.”
