Teenage duo Libby Moloney and Maddison Chesshire played key roles in the Bloods’ 58-46 final-round win over Portland on Saturday.

The Bloods’ second victory of the season relegated the Tigers to the wooden spoon on percentage.

Terang Mortlake coach Lisa Arundell was chuffed with her team’s performance, led by Moloney and Chesshire.

“Libby was in blinding form in centre with her vision and feeding and defensive work,” she said.

“Maddison played in goal shooter and had a fantastic game for an under 15 girl.

“She’s just really holding her own in the ring. She has a bit of height and sometimes she needs to be a bit harder at the ball but every week she’s stepping up. 

“It’s very promising signs for her.”

Arundell, who is committed for 2019, hopes the positive end to the campaign will filter through to Terang Mortlake’s pre-season.

“I was really pleased with them. It was the first time all season we’ve managed to string together four quarters,” she said.

“It makes a big difference – we didn’t have one quarter where we dropped the bundle.

“It’s a good way to finish the season, for a younger playing group, it’s a morale and confidence-booster for them.”

Arundell said avoiding the wooden spoon was “a little added bonus”.

The Bloods finished bottom in 2017 but recorded two more wins than they did this season.
