Home and professional gardeners breathed a sigh of relief when the rain stopped and they could get back into the garden to mow their lawns.
James Dwyer from Warrnambool’s Dywer’s Gardening Service has been working on overdrive since Thursday and welcomed the rain. He expects an increase in calls from Monday up until Christmas from customers “who can’t keep up” with their lawns after the deluge of rain that began last Friday night and continued until Wednesday. “If it doesn’t rain that much now we’ll have good grass for another six or seven weeks but we should get lead-up rain,” he said. “It’s good for the farmers as well. When gardeners are going well with their grass it means farmers are going well with their milk.”
Warrnambool City Council acting director city infrastructure Glenn Reddick said its staff were also preparing for a busy period leading into spring and summer. “Mowing is a year-round activity for our outdoor crew but over the coming weeks as the weather warms it is likely to get a little hectic,” he said.
