Icons of Port Fairy will be launched on September 22 at the Port Fairy History Centre Museum.
The exhibition is being put together by the Port Fairy Historical Society and will run until the end of January, 2019.
Historical society member Richard Patterson said the exhibition would create a lot of interest.
“The idea for the exhibition arose from comments made during the 2017 Port Fairy Folk Festival when a number of those attending events the museum remarked they had not visited the building since the early-1990s and nothing much had changed,” he said.
“It became clear that many residents believe there is little about the town's history they do not already know. And yet, we have unearthed some really eminent Australians who were born in the town.”
Some of the people chosen as icons include former Essendon footballer John Coleman, Melbourne Cup winning jockey Pat Hyland and former Queensland premier TJ Ryan.
