The sad passing of Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle after a long and public cancer battle did this for many around the world.
Warrnambool teenager Noah Best, who will represent Victoria for a third time and play at the School Sports Australia National Golf Championships for a second time, was one.
Best said the death of the 36-year-old changed the way he viewed life and competitive sport.
"It's just a game of golf," he said.
"There could be so much worse happening to you. You could be like Jarrod and be diagnosed with cancer at 17.
"He was (initially) diagnosed at 17 and I am 16 so it's around my age, so I am just trying to get as much out of life as I can."
Best will not be the only 17 and under Victorian representative showing his respect and honouring Lyle at Coffs Harbour next week.
The 16-year-old said he and his teammates were using ‘Leuk the duck’ head covers for their clubs.
The duck and colour yellow represent Lyle’s charity Challenge Australia.
The Warrnambool, Port Fairy and Commonwealth golf clubs member said they would dedicate the week to the Australian golfing cult figure.
"We are up there supporting Jarrod, that's all that really matters,” he said.
"We're going to be playing up there for him and get as much support for his foundation.
"I think we are going to be wearing either yellow hats or yellow shirts. We are going to try and get permission from School Sport Australia.”
