Trainer Jarrod McLean gave credit to his stable staff and in particular his brother Brad after the win of Bryan in the 1100-metre race.
“I’m lucky I’ve got great staff overseeing my stable,” McLean said. “I’m kept busy in my job as Darren Weir’s Warrnambool foreman. I would not be able to have 20 horses in my own stable if I never had such great staff. My brother Brad does a sensational job.
“I thought it was a good race for Bryan. He dropped in weight from his last start win at Donald and there was a bit of give in the track which really suits Bryan.”
The win is Bryan’s first metropolitan victory.
Imported galloper Plein Ciel was Weir’s only Warrnambool trained winner at Caulfield on Saturday but McLean was happy with the performances of stable stars including , Humidor, Kings Will Dreams and Big Duke in the Group two Lawrence Stakes.
“We’ve given our runners a pass mark after the Lawrence,” he said. “I think everyone saw the run of Kings Will Dream. It was a top effort. It’s all systems go to the Caulfield Cup for Kings Will Dream and our other runners will run in spring features over the next few months.”
Ciaron Maher’s mare Naantali ran second in a mares race while Merv McKenzie’s galloper A Good Yarn lost no admrirers with a ninth placing in restricted class.
