The 22-year-old primary teaching student has predominantly played in centre this year but has at times found herself in defence and the goal circle.
Couch, who will feature in the Blues’ qualifying final against Timboon Demons on Saturday, said the varied positions enhanced her game.
“Being able to go to goals and then to centre has impacted the defensive side of my game,” she said.
“Being in goals I know where I want my defender so then going to defence and centre I know where the attackers are going to be. It’s definitely made my role in the team a whole lot better.”
The midcourter, whose last Warrnambool and District finals appearance came in the 2016 preliminary final loss to Dennington, said the feel of the side had been improved thanks to Townsend’s willingness to move players.
“It has really benefited the team, and not just myself, as there has been a few players swing through different positions in the side,” she said.
“It’s just seeing what works best defensively and in attack. It keeps it interesting as well as you aren’t stuck in one position for the whole game.
“Sophie (Adams) has had a stint in defence and Georgia Haberfield has played wing defence and goal attack throughout the year and we have been trying to work out what works best for us.”
Couch said there was a determination to go one better within this season’s A grade side after the Blues’ 17-goal defeat to the Dogs in last year’s decider.
