Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) Koala Management Program manager Vural Yazgin) said his department met recently with local wildlife rehabilitators and Framlingham residents to identify suitable short-term responses to address potential welfare issues.
DELWP has actively managed koala populations at several sites in south-west Victoria including programs at Cape Otway in May this year and last year at Kurtonitj, an Indigenous Protected Area in the Budj Bim landscape near Heywood.
The programs have involved fertility control and translocation to manage the koala population and reduce over-browsing of trees.
