The Dennington-based duo will represent Warrnambool Swimming Club at the Victorian country shortcourse championships in Wangaratta this weekend.

Older sibling Hannah, 14, concedes her younger sister Carla, 13 next month, has her covered in the pool.

“She’s faster than me,” she said.

“I’m kind of used to it (Carla beating me).”

Carla said she enjoyed it when they swam in the same age group at certain events.

“I like it but I don’t think Hannah does, probably because I usually beat her most of the time,” she said.

Carla, who is also preparing for the state titles in Melbourne, will swim in four 100-metre events at the country championships – breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly and the individual medley.

Hannah will compete in the 100m breaststroke in her country titles debut.

The Warrnambool College students are active out of the pool too.

But they play at different Warrnambool and District league netball clubs – Hannah is at Old Collegians and Carla is at Russells Creek.

“I didn’t get into her club,” Carla said of why they don different colours.

Both sisters are happy in their respective teams.

The country swimming championships have come at the perfect time for Hannah too. Her 15 and under Warriors team has the week off for finishing atop the ladder.

Carla will miss the Kangaroos’ 13 and under qualifying final but is hopeful of playing in the second week of the finals.
