But Ms Delaney said she was caught off-guard when she found she had made it into the top three apprentices for Hairhouse Warehouse stores Australia wide.
“For me in a little rural area to get top three is pretty cool,” the Port Campbell resident said.
“I was actually quite surprised, we were jumping around everywhere.”
The Warrnambool Hairhouse Warehouse third-year apprentice will head to Queensland for the gala awards ceremony early next month.
For someone who has always wanted to be a hairdresser, Ms Delaney, 23, said the recognition was a dream come true.
“I love making my clients feel pretty. I’m a very hands-on person. I really enjoy curling and cutting and colouring and having a good old chat,” she said.
“It’s also the people that you work with that makes your day good.”
Hairhouse Warehouse Warrnambool part-owner Jenni Wright said she discovered Meg while doing some casual teaching at South West TAFE and immediately knew “this girl’s got it”.
“I spent a couple of afternoons with Meg and just thought ‘she’s got everything I want’,” she said.
“Meg is one of those people who comes to work and gives it 100 per cent. Nothing is a hassle for her.”
Ms Wright praised the TAFE’s hairdressing department for their great support of apprentices.
