Nirranda’s Katie Ryan had an extra reason to celebrate Saturday’s convincing 53-goal win against Merrivale.
The defender played her 200th Warrnambool and District league match.
Ryan was presented with flowers as a speech was made before the game which she said was a special occasion.
"I suppose it’s nice to get there because a lot of players get unlucky with injuries and things and miss milestones,” she said.
“So it is nice to get there and, touch wood, to be injury-free and feel good.
“And it’s nice to look back at great years with a couple of different clubs and nice to see how far you've come.”
Ryan said there was lots of great memories from her 200 games.
“I won a premiership with East and we were lucky enough to have a bit of success there,” she said.
“And the last three years with Nirranda have been fantastic.
“I’ve been really so lucky to cruise in with Steph (Townsend), the great good of girls and the club itself is great.”
Ryan tried hard not to have the spotlight on her.
But coach and friend Steph Townsend wasn’t going to let that happen as she praised the defender after the win.
“Katie as a netballer is always someone you would want in your team,” she said.
“She’s such a great leader on court, her work ethic for not only herself but her teammates is right up there with the very best.
“She is one of the most competitive people I know which is fantastic because you know she’ll always push you to give your best.
“Being able to play 200 senior league games is an amazing effort and it was an absolute pleasure for us girls to be able to get a win for her.”
