Aimed at helping adults with type 1 diabetes, the program is titled Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating (DAFNE) and will be held at the Lady Bay conference centre.
To be held from September 10-14, the program will provide information on how adults with type 1 diabetes can live the most normal life possible, keeping their blood glucose levels stable and lowering the risk of diabetes complications.
Warrnambool-based diabetes educator Ann Morris will join Diabetes Australia staff in delivering the program.
Mrs Morris said the program was aimed at adults using multiple insulin injections each day.
“It will give them skills to refine their diabetes management and to improve their quality of life,” she said. “There is a lot of evidence showing the benefits of a five-day on-site program to learn skills such as carbohydrate counting and insulin dose adjustment to minimise hypos.
“DAFNE hasn’t been available locally before and I encourage adults with type 1 diabetes to consider its benefits.”
To register for the program, go to Diabetes Victoria’s website or call 1300 136588 and press four for events.
