Supportive family and friends watched as the five-year-old Warrnambool resident had 35.5 centimeters of her hair chopped off at Coco Hair & Beauty on Friday.
Lucy decided to donate her long locks after her mother Bec lost most of her hair to alopecia about two years ago and her young friend Sophie, who is recovering from leukemia, lost her hair through chemotherapy.
Shocked by the tears she shed while she watched her daughter’s hair cut, mum Bec said she it was a noble act.
“I’m just so proud of her,” she said. “She did this by herself. She really is a kind, thoughtful, generous little girl.
Sporting a new bob haircut with glitter spray Lucy declined to comment after the hour-long appointment.
Lucy has raised close to $1000 for Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, which funds blood cancer research.
