Geoscience Australia reported the quake happened at 10.28pm nat a depth of 10 kilometres.
It could be felt in the Lake Bolac and central Highlands region.
The quake was reported as a minor disturbance and unlikely to cause damage.
Quakes below 2.5 are usually not felt, but can be recorded by seismograph.
From 2.5 to five they are often felt, but only causes minor damage.
