Senior forecaster Rod Dickson said Warnambool had received 54mm of rain during July so far, with the average rainfall for the month being 96mm.
“Considering we’ve only really just passed the half-way mark and we’re nearly through to the end of the month we are well short of the average rainfall for the Warrnambool region,” he said.
“Last year for the whole month of July we had 71mm, also falling below the average.”
Warrnambool has had 6.2mm of rain since 9am Thursday.
Portland and Cape Otway both received about 18mm, with Port Fairy (5mm), Hamilton (7mm) and Casterton (4mm) on the lower end of the scale.
Mr Dickson said the rain had been short, sharp and heavy. He said Friday would see further showers with a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms.
“We can expect about five to 10mm of rain, so it’s not going to produce a great deal,” he said.
At 7.30am it was 5.6 degrees in Warrnambool and it felt like -1.1.
Daytime temperatures will hit a top of 12 with westerly winds averaging 35 to 50km/h before tending south-westerly in the early afternoon then becoming light in the late evening.
