South-west residents will be able to have a rare glimpse inside one of Port Fairy’s iconic historic homes this weekend.
Talara, built in 1856, is open on Sunday as part of the Port Fairy Winter Weekends festival.
The home features a formal dining room with a marble fireplace imported from Dublin, a balcony, a library, four bathrooms, a walk-in cellar, and a cedar staircase.
Attendees can wander around the property which boasts a courtyard, orchard and a rose garden. There will be historical photos on display and stories told about the iconic property at the stables as part of the event.
The house was originally built by Dilmond John Howes, who worked for the local shire as a surveyor and engineer. The iconic property, which was on the market in May last year for $1.65 million, sold within a week.
Talara is located at 549 Princes Highway and open from 12.30pm to 4pm. Entry is by gold coin donation.
