Detective Senior Constable Stuart Sims, of the Colac police crime investigation unit, said the burglaries occurred at four Colac properties and one hotel during a late night crime spree on Tuesday, July 10.
He said the 29-year-old stole tools valued at about $200 from properties in Hessy and Calvert streets.
Senior Constable Sims said the offender also attended the Austral Hotel in Murray Street, where he waited for a member of staff to leave the front desk before jumping the counter and stealing about $5000 in cash.
Senior Constable Sims said the offender was known to frequent the Warrnambool, Camperdown and surrounding areas and was known to police.
“The male has acted out of control,” he said. “We know who he is and we are putting in all our efforts to catch him.”
