Police said the 49-year-old was stationary on a dirt shoulder on the left-hand side of the highway in Middle Creek about 1pm on July 5.
The driver has attempted to perform a U-turn across the west-bound lanes of the highway and driven into the path of a black Rangerover station wagon.
The Rangerover has crashed into the vehicle, resulting in significant damage to the driver’s side doors.
The driver and sole occupant of the Rangerover, a 66-year-old man from Kingscote in South Australia was uninjured.
The Ararat man sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he later died on July 12.
