The Timboon Demons player had scans after injuring his leg against Kolora-Noorat on Saturday.
Coach Mick Hunt said the result was not great but better than first thought.
“He is bloody lucky,” he said.
“Most people thought he had broken his leg.
“But there is definitely no broken bones but they were a little bit concerned with the muscle and he has a hot point.
"I think he is still going to miss a couple of weeks for sure but should be back in two or three.”
Hunt said he would not rush Osborne back despite his team facing a big month of football.
"I am certainly not going to risk anyone," he said.
"If we are realistic he misses three weeks, then he'll have about another three before finals. And you want to go in with your full list."
