Jay Rantall and his Australian Crocs teammates have fallen agonisingly short of a birth in the semi-finals of the FIBA Under 17 World Cup after losing to Canada by four-points.

The rising Warrnambool basketballer scored three points and had one assist and two steals from his six minutes on the court.

It was the Crocs’ fourth game decided by under five points, with the Australians holding a 2-2 record from games that had gone down to the wire.

Australia was able to bounce back to secure a 71-54 win over Croatia to set up a fifth-placed decider against Turkey, who beat the Crocs by two points in their group stage match.

Rantall did not score from his two minutes and 30 seconds on the court in the game against Croatia.
