Family fun: The Port Fairy Winter Weekends Fairy Hunt continues to entertain young and old. Visitors and Port Fairy residents can pick up a Fairy Hunt map at the Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre and follow the clues to find magical creatures across the historic village.
SUNDAY
Fundraiser: A musical heartland will be celebrated at the Hotel Warrnambool on Sunday afternoon.
A group of Warrnambool music aficionados will take control of the DJ decks and spin their favourite tracks from Memphis, Tennessee.
The event, Capricorn Goes To Memphis…in 33 1/3 hits, begins at 2pm and is a fundraiser for the Standing Tall program. The title pays homage to not only Memphis but the long-standing Warrnambool store Capricorn Records.
Owner of Capricorn Records, Michael Fitzgerald, who will share the record spinning duties with Peter Dickinson and Robert Quantrelle, said Memphis had played a big part in music history.
"There are so many iconic tunes that reference Memphis, it holds a special place in our hearts," he said.
Dickinson said Memphis has many claims to fame, including being the birthplace of the blues and the resting place of Elvis Presley.
“So many of our musical heroes are from there, not to mention all the others who were influenced by artists who recorded at the legendary Sun Studios and Stax,” Dickinson said.
Quantrelle said it would be “an afternoon of hits and no misses”.
As well as the countdown, the day will also include a Record Fair, which will run from 11.30am and feature vinyls from Warrnambool music retailers Pop Up Records, Prehistoric Sounds and Revival Records.
Members of the Warrnambool Central Rotary Club will cook up a Southern style barbecue and will also be selling raffle tickets.
Rotary member Bob McMillan said the club was thrilled to be involved in the countdown.
“We're excited to be part of the day because of its positive vibe and it gives us a chance to support the community too," he said.
