Principal Peter Auchettl said in a school newsletter that it was a tough decision and the “ever-diminishing number of helpers” was one of the reasons for its demise.
He said in the newsletter, dated June 22, that after many years of holding the popular fair the call to put it into recess was made at a fundraising meeting.
“This was a tough decision, however the amount of work to prepare, set-up, run then pack up by an ever-diminishing number of helpers was not aligned with the return to the school,” Mr Auchettl said.
He said it was important to review events and assess the community’s changing needs and the organising committee thought they would try something else.
“(A lack of volunteers) always comes into it. It’s the same people that are helping out. If they’re (the organising committee) prepared to volunteer and prepared to look at something different then I’m all for that.”
The Jamo Fair is the school’s biggest annual fundraising event.
Mr Auchettl said a meeting would be held on Tuesday night to discuss holding a colour run instead.
He said he was unsure if the fair would return in the future.
“Who knows? No-one has a crystal ball,” he said. “So we don’t know. It might be in hiatus for one year, two years, five years, 10 years I don’t know. We review things on an ongoing basis. They’re saying colour runs are pretty popular at the minute so we’ll try it.”
