Robert John Gladman, 27, of Barkly Street, Warrnambool, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to a range of offences including damaging property and acting prejudicial to the good running of a police jail. 

He was jailed for the 31 days he has spent in custody, fined $400 and also ordered to pay $400 restitution.

On May 19 Gladman damaged a woman's property and locked her out of her home.

He also chopped down trees and the woman became frightened of his aggressive behaviour.

Gladman was released from the Warrnambool police station at 6.30am on May 22 and 10 minutes later broke into the Radio Rentals store in Fairy Street, stealing a $500 sound system.

He was staying in temporary accommodation organised by the police.

The offence was reported by a witness and police chased Gladman into a car wash before finding him at his nearby temporary accommodation.

When taken to the police station he was aggressive and punched a wall.

He made a comment about spitting in the face of an officer, argued and took off his top before picking up a chair and banging holes in a wall.

He threw another chair at police, which missed and caused another large hole in the wall.

Police officers also went to his home on April 23 and found a large cannabis plant drying in a shed as well as cannabis in his bedroom.

Lawyer Louis Robertson said his client had engaged in inexcusable behaviour and when he used drugs he could become out of control.

"He is someone who is suffering from a mental illness which is exacerbated by drug use," he said.

Magistrate Cynthia Toose said Gladman could be a terrifying individual and had acted inappropriately.

She said if he continued to take drugs and offend he would lose family support.

"You have to be mindful to not consume anything that is not prescribed as that can derail the who process," she said.
