The council had put the city’s airport forward as a potential site to train more than 500 pilots.
Qantas announced nine regional cities had been selected – Alice Springs, Bendigo, Busselton, Dubbo, Launceston, Mackay, Tamworth, Toowoomba and Wagga Wagga made the cut.
More than 60 regional cities put forward a proposal. The academy is due to open its doors in 2019.
