From dusk till 10pm on Saturday short films were projected onto the walls of Warrnambool’s breakwater.
Sam Pendergast was part of the volunteer committee which helped establish the event and said the idea for the festival came to him one day when he was surfing at The Flume.
“I was just sick of how in the summer months it’s just so packed with events,” he said.
“I thought why not do something in the winter. I was looking at the Breakwater and I thought it would be nice to use this. It’s a feature of Warrnambool.”
Mr Pendergast joked that his family probably hoped that the festival didn’t happen again given the help they’d given in the past few days.
“Hopefully everyone enjoys it and it all goes off nicely,” he said.
The short films were projected about 15 to 20 metres apart on the wall of the breakwater and running concurrently on repeat.
Attendees were encouraged to walk a loop to see the local and international films.
Meanwhile, swimmers marked the winter solstice with a brief dip at McGennans beach near the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club on Saturday afternoon.
