South Warrnambool’s Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (under 16s) and Terang Mortlake’s Scott Carlin (under 18s) will represent Vic Country in AFL national championship matches this weekend.
Ugle-Hagan will play in Vic Country’s under 16 series opener against Vic Metro at Ikon Park on Saturday.
Carlin will run out onto the MCG 24 hours later for Vic Country’s under 18 round three clash with Vic Metro.
The game is a curtain-raiser to the Collingwood and Carlton grudge match.
Ugle-Hagan, who is a boarder at Melbourne’s Scotch College, said he was “mainly after the wins”.
“After that we’ll see where it takes me,” the tall swingman said.
Greater Western Victoria Rebels talent manager Phil Partington said both Hampden league players deserved their spots.
Partington said Carlin, who boards at Ballarat’s St Patrick’s College, would play his role.
“He’s shown solid form for the Rebels the last few weeks across a half-back flank and going onball,” he said. “
To get an opportunity on the MCG against Metro in one of the biggest games of the carnival is a credit to him.”
Partington said Ugle-Hagan could slot in at centre half-back but was equally capable in attack.
“He’s a fantastic young man and gets the best out of himself,” he said.
