Police said he was taken by ambulance in a stable condition to the Warrnambool Base Hospital with a head injury, before he was flown to Melbourne.
EARLIER: Police say a German man who crashed on Thursday afternoon is lucky to be alive.
The 23-year-old was involved in a single car crash on Tarrone Lane, Tarrone, north of Kirkstall, about 2.10pm.
Port Fairy police Leading Senior Constable David Rook said the man, who is believed to be working in the area, was “very lucky to be alive”.
“He was wearing his seat belt,” Leading Senior Constable Rook said.
“That has saved him from serious injury or death.”
The man has been taken by road ambulance to the Warrnambool Base Hospital in a stable condition with a head injury.
Leading Senior Constable Rook said it appeared the man had over-corrected on a bend and lost control of his white Subaru wagon.
“Alcohol was not a factor,” he said.
“We will now investigate whether speed or other factors contributed to the crash.”
He said a loose object in the car may have caused the man’s head injury.
Port Fairy SES and Warrong CFA attended and helped remove the man from his destroyed car.
