Wormald's Hampden netball league side Warrnambool faced arch rival South Warrnambool at 4.15pm as part of a night fixture, and she stayed until the middle of the fourth quarter before she scooted from the Friendly Societies’ Park to the stadium for her basketball commitments at 6pm.

The rain and time pressure didn’t seem to bother the 27-year-old who starred on both courts.

Wormald, who is studying education at Deakin University, shot 27 goals for the Blues as they held on to secure a two-goal victory over the Roosters.

She then dominated on the basketball court in the Mermaids’ 13-point victory over Warrandyte Venom, where she played 38 minutes and collected 30 points, 25 rebounds and three assists after having only a 10-minute warm-up.

Wormald said the adrenaline rush from the close netball match against South Warrnambool had spurred her on at the basketball.

“I was on a little bit of a high, because we were up in the netball by four goals before I left and we were playing really well,” she said. “I was pretty excited and didn’t want to leave, but I was still feeling good from the netball when I got to the basketball.”

Wormald normally has at least two hours between the two sports to relax and prepare but she thought the time restraint had worked in her favour this time.

“I didn’t have any time to think about anything or read too much into the (Mermaids) game or get nervous,” she said. “I tend to over analysis the game sometimes and put a bit of pressure on myself and this time I didn’t have any time which allowed me to have a clear head and a good attitude.”
