Clarke will run the half-marathon at the Alice Springs Masters Games in October.
While he is 83, Clarke will compete in the 84-years category at the games.
Clarke said he was looking forward to the challenge.
“I did the half-marathon when I was 80 and got through alright so I am confident I can finish this one as well,” he said.
“My achilles is a bit sore so I have been training on the soft sand on the beach.
“I always keep fit, I’m as fit as I’ve ever been.
“I still enjoy it but you never know, this might be my last half-marathon, I’ll see how I go.”
Clarke said he plans to go to Alice Springs a couple of days before the half-marathon to acclimatize to the hotter weather.
