A MAN was trapped in his car for more than 11 hours after running off the road at Gazette, west of Penshurst, on Sunday night.
Police said the 67-year-old Gazette man was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries on Monday morning.
Police believed the man, the sole occupant of the car, crashed into a fence on Macarthur-Penshurst Road sometime before 8.30pm on Sunday.
The accident was not reported to police until a passer-by, who first noticed the car at 6am on Monday, passed it again about 7.20am and alerted emergency services.
Hamilton police are yet to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash and seen it after the crash.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man had abdominal and head injures and was in a stable condition when flown from the crash site.
The accident happened at a sweeping bend near Burgers Road.
Earlier: A MAN has been flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital following a single-vehicle accident at Gazette.
The man, who was the driver and single occupant of the car, has abdominal and head injures and was in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.
The man, in his 60s, left the road and collided with a fence on the Penshurst-Macarthur Road and Burgers Road intersection about 8.30pm on Sunday night after failing to negotiate a sweeping bend.
Ambulance Victoria received a call at 7.23am this morning alerting them to the accident.
The driver was found by a passing motorist who alerted ambulance.
Hamilton police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car either leave the road or sitting in a stationary position after it had crashed. Hamilton police can be contacted on 55519100.
